New Salon Opens In Annapolis Mall, Specializes In Black Hair Care

PAROLE, MD — A new salon opened recently in the Westfield Annapolis mall. The beauty parlor, named Salon M double U, specializes in Balck hair care.

The business held its grand opening on Feb. 19. The event included a presentation on the history of African-American hair care.

"Congratulations to Salon m double u on your grand opening and on hosting a wonderful celebration of the history of Black hair care," County Executive Steuart Pittman said on Facebook after attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony. "Anne Arundel County is proud to have your business as the newest edition to Westfield Annapolis."

The presentation featured:

  • Sasha Turnbo: Niece of Annie Turnbo Malone, a pioneer in the African-American beauty industry
  • Barry Fletcher: Hair designer, author, product creator for Black hair care

  • Gavin Buckley: Mayor of the City Of Annapolis

"Your grand opening ceremony reminded us of the [importance] of Black hair care and entrepreneurship," Henson said on Facebook.

The salon is located at 2245 Annapolis Mall. It is close to the Pottery Barn entrance at Garage 1A.

The business is also hiring a:

  • Cosmetologist
  • Hairstylist
  • Shampoo assistant
  • Receptionist

The beauty parlor is similarly looking for models. It will offer free services to clients who pose for marketing materials.
