A man masturbated in a Hanover Dunkin', police said. An officer used his taser at a hospital when the suspect wielded a pole as a sword.

HANOVER, MD — A man masturbated in public in an Anne Arundel County coffee shop, police said Wednesday. The accused man went to a hospital, where an officer used his taser on the suspect while he was acting unruly with an impromptu weapon.
Authorities identified the suspect as 19-year-old James Alexander Morgan Mccarty of Hanover. Police said they arrested him and charged him accordingly.
Officers said they got a call Tuesday around 1:30 p.m. for a man acting erratically in a Hanover Dunkin' at 7657 Arundel Mills Boulevard.

Authorities said several officers were needed to secure his hands and put him in handcuffs.
The suspect spat in one of the officer's eyes and may have exposed him to blood from a previous wound, authorities said.
Police said the officer was treated for the possible blood exposure. No other injuries were reported.
Mccarty was taken to an unidentified hospital for treatment, officers said.
The release said the suspect later broke the IV pole off his hospital bed and tried "to force the lock in the room where he was being treated."
An officer and security guards entered the room. Authorities said Mccarty got up from his bed, pulled the pole from his pants, wielded it as if it were a sword and advanced.
That's when the officer deployed his taser, police said.
The officers and guards then secured the suspect, the Anne Arundel County Police Department said.
