Memorial Day 2016: Odenton Carnival + Parade, Plus What's Open, Closed
While Odenton offices and schools are closed for Memorial Day, the annual carnival will be in full swing, plus a parade.

ODENTON, MD — The Memorial Day holiday is on Monday, May 30. But the fun begins early in Odenton.
The Odenton Volunteer Fire Company 2016 Carnival begins Tuesday, May 24, and runs through Memorial Day, May 30. Hours are:
- May 24-26: Carnival opens at 6 p.m
- May 27-28: Carnival opens at 5:30 p.m.
- May 29: Carnival opens at 5 p.m.
- May 30: Carnival opens at 4 p.m.
The department's Memorial Day Parade will start at 5 p.m. on May 30.

In observance of the holiday, Anne Arundel County government offices will be closed, along with all Anne Arundel County Public Schools and central offices and libraries.
Trash and recycling collection in the county will be delayed a day. If Monday is the normal collection day, service will occur on Tuesday. If Tuesday is the normal collection day, service will take place on Wednesday. The county landfill and recycling centers will be closed Monday.
Annapolis Parade
To celebrate the holiday, Annapolis will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 30, starting at 10 a.m. The parade follows the traditional route on West Street, goes around Church Circle, down Main Street, and ends at City Dock.
Immediately following the parade will be the annual wreath laying ceremony at Susan Campbell Park. This ceremony is open to the public.
Mayo Beach is Open
Mayo Beach Park, 4150 Honeysuckle Drive in Edgewater, will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Memorial Day. This event is free and open to the general public. Bring your kids and your grandkids and a picnic and enjoy this county-owned public beach.
This county-owned public park is only rarely open to the general public. Mayo Beach has wide sand beaches, a bath house, a playground, a softball field, parking for hundreds of cars and a pavilion that is usually rented out for weddings. Bring your canoe, kayak or stand-up paddleboard and launch from the beach. Bring your binoculars and find the birds that live in the huge tidal pond behind the park.
No alcohol and please leash your dog.
