Millersville Man Critically Hurt Burning Leaves In Yard

A Millersville man suffered life-threatening burns after he used gasoline to burn leaves in his yard, county fire officials said.

MILLERSVILLE, MD — A Millersville man suffered life-threatening burns April 6 after he used gasoline to burn leaves in his yard, county fire officials said. The 77-year-old man was burning leaves and sticks in a legal burn pit when he was injured in the 500 block of Ski Lane.

Anne Arundel County Fire officials said in a release that the victim attempted to kindle the fire using gasoline. Fuel vapors apparently ignited from the pit back to the man, causing the burn injuries.

A Maryland State Police helicopter landed near the scene to fly the man to the burn center at John Hopkins Bayview Hospital.
