Murdered Mom 'Had Her Life Stolen from Her': Police Chief
Karlyn Ramirez, who was stationed at Fort Meade, was shot to death in August 2015. Police and the Army are offering $20K reward for tips.

SEVERN, MD — The person who knows what led to the murder of mother and soldier Karlyn Serane Ramirez should view the $20,000 reward now offered in the case as a chance for a fresh start, police said Tuesday.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department and the United States Army Criminal Investigation Command are offering a $20,000 reward for anyone who has information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects responsible for Ramirez’s murder. Authorities who spoke at a press conference Tuesday said there is no person of interest in the case, including her husband, but no one is ruled out, either.

Ramirez, 24, was found shot to death in her Severn home Aug. 25, 2015, with her then 5-month-old daughter, Kattaleya Vale Kearny, unharmed beside her.
She is also survived by her husband, Maliek Kearney, a master sergeant in the Army, who is stationed at Fort Jackson, SC. Kearney was on duty in South Carolina at the time his wife was killed, police said.

“A young lady who was in the prime of her life, who was service driven, serving her country, had her life stolen from her in her own home,” said Anne Arundel County Police Chief Timothy Altomare.
Officers found Ramirez’ body after maintenance workers reported the door to her home open in the 8000 block of Millstone Court, which seemed suspicious, and called police.
Ramirez died from multiple gunshot wounds and the case is a homicide.
The chief said to whoever might have information that the $20,000 reward is enough to move, start a new life and get away from any threat.
“It’s a chance at a new beginning somewhere else,” Altomare said. “We’re hoping the person who has the kernel of information we need will step forward, let us know what they know, and help bring the killer in this case to justice.”
Sgt. John Poole said Ramirez was murdered the night before her body was found. There was no sign of forced entry to her home or robbery.
Police don’t have a person of interest, Poole said, but are confident someone has a “kernel of information” that can help solve the case. When asked if Ramirez’ husband has been ruled out as a suspect, Poole said nobody has been ruled out.
There is no threat to residents in the area, he said, investigators say it was a targeted crime.
The victim’s daughter is now living with her grandmother.
