Nanny Drugged Toddler To Force Nap Time: Police
A 38-year-old Sunderland woman faces several charges after home footage showed her giving pills to a Severn toddler who then fell asleep.
SEVERN, MD — A 38-year-old nanny from Sunderland has been arrested and charged with second degree child abuse, reckless endangerment and neglect of a minor after police say Shannon Michelle Emery gave a two-year-old child in her care "unknown pills" so that the toddler would sleep for several hours.
Officers responded to the child's home in the 8200 block of Saint Francis Drive Jan. 11. The toddler's mom had reviewed video captured from inside her home that showed the nanny giving pills to the child and the child going to sleep. The child has since been treated by a physician.
A search warrant carried out at the suspect's resident revealed antihistamines and other pieces of evidence. Emery was taken into custody Feb. 24. Anyone with information about this incident or any other victims are asked to contact the Anne Arundel County Child Abuse Unit at 410-222-4733. Callers can remain anonymous by contacting the Anne Arundel County Tip Line at 410-222-4700 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 877-756-2587.
