ODENTON, MD — First responder Brandy Boulden with the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company has helped save many lives in her few years on the job. For that reason, and others, Boulden has been honored with the Rotary Club of Glen Burnie and Bank of Glen Burnie's Service Above Self award, according to a news release.

Boulden joined the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company in June 2016 and completed her emergency medical technician training one year later, finishing in the top of her class. She also became certified as an ambulance driver and responded to 117 emergency calls in 2018 alone. So far, she has completed more than 240 hours of training.

According to a press release from the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company, Boulden is "always one of the first to raise her hand" when assistance is needed. She helps with the company's fundraisers and other special events, and serves on several committees. Boulden eagerly educates children about fire safety and in 2018, hosted 21 children's birthday parties at the fire stations where the party guests learn about fire safety. She also leads fire station tours, scout visits and school visits.

Boulden also organized Odenton Day in October where more than 600 people stopped by the fire station and participated in fire safety activities, the release stated. She put together a Cookies and Crafts with Santa event, spearheaded a toy drive for local children in need and drummed up an impressive amount of donations that benefited children across Ann Arundel County, making it the single largest donation The Sharing Foundation had received in the past 14 years.
