ODENTON, MD — An Odenton man was convicted on assault charges for punching and strangling his estranged wife one day after she obtained a protective order against him. Anne Arundel County Circuit Court Judge Mark W. Crooks found Michael Hussey, 60, of Odenton, guilty Wednesday of first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and disorderly conduct on charges connected to his assault of his wife.

"The harm that Michael Hussey has inflicted on his wife is unimaginable," said Anne Arundel County State's Attorney Wes Adams in a statement. "Every instance of spousal abuse is abhorrent, and I am glad this case ended in justice for the victim."

Anne Arundel County Police were called to Orchard Overlook in Odenton on Sept. 11, 2015, for a report of domestic violence. An officer found a woman lying across the sidewalk on her side. She told police that her husband, Michael Hussey, had attacked her.

Prosecutors say that one day after she obtained a protective order against him, Hussey waited for his wife to leave her condo on her way to work. He snuck up behind her, cursed at her, and then punched his wife in the face, which knocked her to the ground and her head struck the concrete.

Several neighbors were awakened by the sound of screaming, went outside to investigate the noise and found Hussey on top of his wife, strangling her. As one witness attempted to subdue him, Hussey broke free, grabbed the keys to his wife's car, and fled the scene, prosecutors say.
