Odenton Vehicle Breakins Linked to Attempted Murder Suspect

A Washington, DC, man wanted for attempted murder of a Prince George's County deputy is also charged with a string of Odenton thefts.

ODENTON, MD — A Washington, D.C., man has been charged in a string of Odenton vehicle thefts, as well as being named a suspect in the attempted robbery of a Prince George's County sheriff's deputy, authorities say.

Anne Arundel County Police were called July 24 to the area of the West 32 Apartment Homes in the 300 block of Baldwin Avenue in Odenton to investigate numerous vehicle break-ins. Numerous pieces of property were stolen, including a Glock 9mm handgun, handcuffs, 9 mm ammunition, a wallet, and purse. The firearm and related equipment belonged to a security company employee who was storing the equipment in a vehicle.

Investigators claim that four black men, one of whom was reportedly George Thomas Hunt, 18, Washington, D.C., drove a silver Volkswagen Passat into the complex on July 24. They rummaged through vehicles in the parking lot, took property from several, and then left.

Police later learned that earlier the same morning before the Odenton thefts, a similar vehicle was involved in an attempted robbery and attempted murder of an off-duty Prince George’s County Sheriff’s deputy.

Officers with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., located the Volkswagen suspected in the Odenton case on July 31. When police tried to stop the vehicle, which was driven by Hunt, it fled through the city until Hunt abandoned the car.

Property that was stolen during the Odenton breakins was recovered from Hunt's vehicle following his arrest.

On Sept. 14, a search warrant was served at a residence in the 2300 block of Oxon Road in Temple Hills, where officers found Hunt inside and arrested him. He was charged with numerous criminal violations including theft and rogue and vagabond.
