The Maryland Fire Chiefs Association (MFCA) established the Hall of Fame Award to recognize the distinguished accomplishments and service of individuals. On October 30, 2021, the MFCA announced the award during a ceremony held at the Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department.  The inaugural group of 56 recipients of the award included those who previously had been recognized by the MFCA as recipients of the William G. Perry Award, the Chief Leslie B. Thompson Memorial Award, or the Chief John W. Hoglund Fire Service Leadership Award. These 56 individuals were established as Charter Members of the Maryland Fire Chiefs Association Hall of Fame Award.
