Resident Critically Burned in Trailer Fire: Officials

A trailer home in Maryland City caught fire Tuesday; two adults and a 5-year-old were taken to area hospitals.

MARYLAND CITY, MD — One person was critically injured with burns over more than half his body when a trailer home in Maryland City caught fire Tuesday, according to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

The fire was reported Just before 11:45 a.m. in the unit block of South Paula Street; firefighters found the structure was heavily involved.

Officials say the home’s three occupants had all escaped the structure before firefighters arrived, and all three were taken to the hospital.

The most seriously injured was a 33-year-old man who suffered burns to between 60 and 80 percent of his body. He was flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to the Burn Center at John Hopkins Bayview with critical, life-threatening injuries.

A 31-year-old man was taken to the Center for Hyperbaric Medicine at Shock Trauma for possible smoke inhalation. His injuries were serious, but not believed life threatening, fire officials said.

A five-year-old boy was taken to Hopkins Bayview to be evaluated.

The fire is currently under investigation and damages are estimated at $50,000.
