Severn Kitchen Fire Sends 2 Adults To Hospital, No Smoke Alarms In Home
A fire in a Chalice Road home injured two people and caused an estimated $50,000 in damage, fire officials said.

SEVERN, MD — A fire in a Chalice Road home in Severn injured two people and caused an estimated $50,000 in damage Saturday evening, according to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to a report of a kitchen fire in a home in the 7800 block of Chalice Road just before 5:45 p.m. Saturday. Members of the Anne Arundel County Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit determined that the cause of the fire was accidental and related to unattended cooking.
Firefighters reported smoke and fire evident from the one-story single family dwelling.

Two people who were in the home at the time of the fire were injured. Paramedics transported the 78-year-old female to the Burn Center at John Hopkins Bayview with possibly serious injuries, according to fire officials. Paramedics evaluated the second occupant who declined hospital transport.
There were no other injuries.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the kitchen fire, which extended to two adjacent rooms and into the attic of the home, fire officials said.
Investigators later determined that there were no working smoke alarms in the home. The two occupants have been displaced and assisted by the Red Cross, fire officials said.
