Severn Library's Reopening Postponed Due To Construction Delays

SEVERN, MD — The reopening of the Severn Library has been pushed back to March 13 due to construction delays, officials with the Anne Arundel County Public Library have announced. The branch is undergoing a $1.1 million renovation.

“We apologize for this unexpected delay and its impact on our customers,” said library CEO Skip Auld in a statement. “Library staff are eager to reopen and get back to serving the community."

Items placed on hold at the Severn Library should be picked up by customers at the Odenton Library until March 12. Meeting rooms will be available for booking starting March 16 for events to be held March 23 through May 31. The library’s book drop remains open and items may also be renewed online at www.aacpl.net.

As part of the renovation, Severn Library is receiving upgrades including all new shelving and furniture, a new living room space, updated meeting rooms with smart boards, an all new café space with vending machines and the purchase of Chromebooks that will be available for checkout inside the branch. Additional work will be done on the exterior of the building in the project’s final phase.

A grand reopening celebration is scheduled for March 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. and will feature activities, food and giveaways.
