Severn Man Arrested On Weapons Charges, Warrants

A Severn man spotted by police jaywalking was arrested on multiple warrants and weapons charges, authorities say.

SEVERN, MD — A Severn man sought on warrants by law enforcement was arrested on multiple charges, including weapons violations, by an Anne Arundel County Police officer Friday afternoon. An officer on patrol near Pioneer Drive and Reece Road when he saw a man who matched the description of a suspect from a robbery reported a day earlier in the same area.

Police say an officer saw Lewis Hamlin Jr., 22, of the 2900 block of Parham Court in Severn, cross Reece Road in heavy traffic without using the crosswalk. The officer eventually caught up with Hamlin as he was cutting through the side parking lot of Van Bokkelen Elementary School, and the suspect reportedly became irate and uncooperative. As the officer attempted to place Hamlin under arrest, police say he began to resist, but was taken into custody.

A search of Hamlin reportedly turned up a loaded semi-automatic handgun in his jacket pocket and a knife in his pants pocket. Police say several open warrants for Hamlin were issued in Anne Arundel County, Baltimore County, and through the Maryland Transit Administration.

Hamlin is charged with:

  • Unsafe crossing in path of vehicle
  • Obstructing/hindering
  • Handgun on person
  • Illegal possession of firearm
  • Weapon on school property
  • Trespassing school property
  • Served warrants
