Severn Man Charged In Fatal 2025 Car Crash
A Severn man is out on a $1,000 bond after being charged in a fatal car crash that happened in February 2025, police said.
SEVERN, MD — Andrew Machinjiri, a 25-year-old man from Severn, was recently charged over a fatal 2025 car crash involving a dump trailer, according to authorities.
The Montgomery County Police Department said Tuesday that Machinjiri's charges stemmed from a Feb. 28 crash in Silver Spring, at the intersection of Norbeck and Layhill roads.
Both police and units with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service responded to the intersection at about 12:48 p.m. for reports of a collision involving two vehicles and a dump trailer.

Investigators said a Freightliner Columbia tractor towing a dump trailer collided with a Kia Seltos, later "dragging" the SUV for "several hundred feet before coming to a stop."
Jiwon Kim, the 28-year-old woman driving the Kia, died at the scene. At the time, the Silver Spring intersection was shut down for several hours.

Police said detectives with the department's Collision Reconstruction Unit found Machinjiri at fault and charged him with negligent manslaughter by vehicle, along with other traffic-related offenses.
Machinjiri is presently out on a $1,000 bond.
