Severn Man Dies When Car Slams Into Gas Pump

A Severn man lost control of his car, which struck another car and then slammed into a gas pump in Odenton, police say.

ODENTON, MD — A 21-year-old Severn man died Tuesday when he lost control of his car, struck another vehicle, and the car then slammed into a gas pump at an Odenton gas station, authorities say. The driver killed has been identified as Edward Keaton Mack III, of the 1700 block of Jennifer Meadows Court in Severn, according to Anne Arundel County Police.

Mack's car crashed on Annapolis Road in the area of Charter Oaks Boulevard in Odenton just before 10:30 p.m. Investigators say his 1998 Nissan Maxima was southbound on Annapolis Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it crossed into northbound lane. The Nissan collided with a 1998 Ford Mustang that was northbound on Annapolis Road, then drove off the road onto the property of the BP gas station at 1604 Annapolis Road, and struck a fuel pump.

Police say Mack was pronounced dead on the scene. His body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy. Authorities are still working to determine what caused Mack to lose control of his car.
