Severn Resident Escapes House Fire

An early-morning blaze in Severn caused about $75,000 damage; no injuries were reported.

SEVERN, MD — Smoke alarms helped a Severn resident escape a house fire early Tuesday that caused $75,000 damage, authorities say.

No injuries were reported in the fire called in about 12:15 a.m. in the 900 block of Forest Road, according to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

The first firefighters to arrive saw smoke coming from the single-family home and located a fire in the basement. The fire was brought under control in less than 20 minutes.

One person was home at the time and was alerted to the fire by smoke alarms.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by members of the Anne Arundel County Fire and Explosives investigation unit.
