Shooting At Thanksgiving Football Game Kills 1, Injures 2: Police

A scuffle after a Thanksgiving football game turned deadly, Anne Arundel County police said. Now, officers search for the killer.

SEVERN, MD — Police said three people were shot after a Thanksgiving football game in Severn. One of the victims died, an incident report added.

Officers identified the man as Louis Guy Newman III of Glen Burnie. An autopsy ruled Newman's death a homicide by gunshot. He was 20.

Newman was part of a large crowd at the matchup between two neighborhoods. The game took place in an open field behind the 1700 block of Meade Village Circle Road.

After play ended, a scuffle broke out. The argument got physical and eventually ended with the shooting, police said.

Medics took Newman to an unnamed hospital where he later passed, the report noted. The second victim, a 30-year-old man, went to an unspecified shock trauma center. His injuries are life-threatening.

The final victim turned up at a Baltimore hospital. The 29-year-old man is expected to survive.

Officers did not specify whether the victims were arguers or bystanders. It also isn't clear whether the they were players or fans.

Helicopters, K-9 units and homicide detectives came to the scene around 1:30 p.m. As the investigation began, police got into a foot chase in the 1100 block of Reece Road.

Officers said the runner grabbed his waist area, suggesting that he had a gun. Police eventually caught the man and identified him as Keith Irving Brown Eldridge of Glen Burnie. A K-9 team found a loaded handgun along the route that Eldridge ran, the report added.

Police said they arrested Eldridge, 19, charging him with gun crimes and failure to obey a lawful order. Detectives are investigating whether Eldridge was involved in the shooting.

The investigation continued until nightfall on Thursday. The search continued Friday, helping police find several pieces of evidence.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department asked witnesses to help with the investigation. Police offer a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the killer or killers.
