Speeding Severn Motorcyclist Seriously Hurt In Crash: Police
A Severn motorcyclist was flown to a trauma center after speeding through vehicles and hitting a pickup, police say. Charges are pending.

MILLERSVILLE, MD — A Severn motorcyclist was flown to a trauma center Friday morning after speeding through vehicles and hitting a pickup, Anne Arundel County Police say. Charges are pending in the crash, which happened just after 6:30 a.m. on southbound Crain Hwy (MD-3) just north of Annapolis Road (MD-175) in Millersville.
Investigators say a 2008 Yamaha YZF motorcycle was southbound on MD-3 at a very high rate of speed when it came upon vehicles stopped for the red traffic signal at Annapolis Road. The motorcycle driver — Duane Martin Brewer Jr., 22, of the 8500 block of New Cut Road in Severn — attempted to split the lane between two vehicles and his bike hit a pickup truck, throwing him from the motorcycle.
Brewer suffered possible life-threatening injuries and was taken by helicopter to Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

The driver of the 1997 Ford F-150 pickup truck, Jose S. Amaya, 44, of Catonsville, was not injured.
Police say the primary cause of the crash is excessive speed and failing to reduce speed to avoid a collision. There were no signs of alcohol or drug use and Brewer was wearing a helmet. Any charges will be after review by the state’s attorney.
