Suspected Gunman in Shots Fired Near NSA in Custody
The FBI is reportedly investigating whether man was involved in string of shootings in the past week.
A man suspected in a series of shootings near the NSA, Columbia mall, Arundel Mills and other locations was taken into custody Tuesday, according to reports.
The FBI on Tuesday detained the man, who was not identified, and issued this statement, obtained by The Washington Post: “We believe the subject responsible for shooting incidents on the ICC, near Fort Meade Army installation and other locations around the Baltimore-Washington metro area in the last two weeks is in custody.”
The man was taken into custody Tuesday night, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

The latest in the string of shootings was reported Tuesday afternoon near the National Security Agency (NSA) on the Fort Meade campus. Before 4:30 p.m., officials were called to investigate a report of gunfire off Baltimore Washington Parkway near the NSA, according to ABC 2 News. U.S. Park Police told Reuters that officials found an NSA building damaged and were investigating whether gunshots were involved.
At approximately 2:40 p.m., two people suffered non life-threatening injuries when a bullet went through the window of their tree service truck on the Intercounty Connector (ICC) near Interstate 95, The Washington Post reported. One victim was bruised when a bullet casing got caught in his clothing and another was injured by broken glass, according to WJZ.

Police were investigating whether Tuesday’s incidents were related to three shootings near area shopping centers in Howard, Prince George’s and Anne Arundel counties, according to The Baltimore Sun.
- At 5:10 a.m. on Monday, March 2, the Howard County Police Department responded to the AMC Theatre at The Mall in Columbia, where a member of the cleaning crew had seen shots fired at the movie theater. The theater, mall and nearby buildings in the 10300 block of Little Patuxent Parkway were not open at the time and nobody was injured, police said.
- Also on Monday, March 2, police were called to the Walmart in Laurel for a report of shots fired, according to The Baltimore Sun.
- At 7:35 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24, shots were fired at a vehicle near the Arundel Mills PetSmart in Hanover, causing minor injury to the victim inside, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department, which was investigating a blue or gray Lincoln Town Car as the suspect vehicle.
