SUV Driver Sought in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crofton Accident
Anne Arundel County Police say an SUV driver may not realize he was hit by speeding motorcycle; the biker died in Saturday's Crofton crash.
Crofton, MD — Authorities have released images of an SUV they are seeking that collided with a motorcycle Saturday night, killing a Halethorpe man.
The accident between a Kawasaki motorcycle and the SUV was reported about 11:30 p.m. at MD Route 3 at Capital Raceway Road. The motorcycle was driven by Lafawn Augustus Stevens Jr., 29, of Halethorpe; he died at an area hospital.
Video from nearby businesses shows an SUV that was likely struck by the motorcycle while it was turning into the Crofton Auto Park parking lot (YK Classic Car Wash, Jiffy Lube and Goodyear Service center), according to police.

The SUV was a two-tone, light-colored 2007-2011 Ford Expedition XLT or Eddie Bauer edition that was leaving the Capital Raceway or Skate Zone about 11:30 p.m. The SUV is likely missing a sizeable piece of the chrome grill from the driver’s side (circled) as well as some smaller pieces from the lower bumper/air dam, police say.

The SUV driver may not have known he/she was struck by the motorcycle and is currently only wanted for questioning as a witness/victim of the crash, police said.

Anne Arundel County Police say Stevens' motorcycle was southbound on MD Route 3 approaching Capital Raceway Road. Witnesses said the SUV pulled from Capital Raceway Road, crossed two lanes of traffic, then abruptly turned left onto a crossover to northbound Route 3. The motorcycle struck the SUV and Stevens was thrown from the bike.
The vehicle left the scene and is believed to have driven northbound on Route 3.
Speed on the part of the motorcyclist may be a factor in the case, police said.
Anyone with information on the identity of the SUV or the driver is asked to call police at (410) 222-8573.
