The Anne Arundel County Board of Education held an unexpected vote regarding a developer-proposed school to the south of the Waugh Chapel Towne Centre. By a vote of 5-4, it authorized the school system to negotiate a construction agreement with Koch Homes and Classic Communities Corp. Some residents had been hopeful the board would hold off on voting until at least September so that more community groups could be briefed on the plan.

As many as nine people were hurt Wednesday when two boats collided on the Magothy River. Among the injured was Del. Don Dwyer (R-Pasadena), who acknowledged that he had been drinking prior to the incident.

On Wednesday, we picked up the report in the Boston Globe about a couple who is suing the popular donut chain, arguing they were provided false information when they bought franchise in Odenton. They also allege that Dunkin' Donuts practiced racial discrimination when it directed them to certain locations.

The Odenton-based firm, which makes covers and other accessories for e-readers and smartphones, made the Inc. 500/5000 list featuring companies witht the quickest growth. It has seen sales explode more than 3,000 percent in three years.

Patch chatted a bit with members of the Arundel marching band as they gear up for the start of school. They had a hot but productive summer band camp, and are focusing on perfecting a show centering around the concept of "time."
