Fatal Tow Truck Crash In Anne Arundel Kills 2 Prince George's Women: Police

A fatal tow truck crash in Anne Arundel County killed two Prince George's County women, police said. Two others were also hospitalized.

GAMBRILLS, MD — A Sunday tow truck crash in Gambrills killed two Glenn Dale women, authorities announced. The Anne Arundel County Police Department said the wreck also hospitalized two other people.

Officers identified the deceased victims as Irene Nkechi Onwukwe, 54, and Josephine Monyei, 85.

The crash happened around 12:15 a.m. on southbound Crain Highway at westbound Maryland Route 32, authorities said.

Police said a southbound 2013 Freightliner tow truck rear-ended a 2010 Honda sedan.

Officers said the tow truck overrode the sedan, causing both vehicles to leave the right side of the road and hit trees.

Authorities said Onwukwe, the Honda driver, and Monyei, her back seat passenger, were pronounced dead on the scene.

Maryland State Police Trooper 1 flew the sedan's front seat passenger to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with serious injuries, a press release said.

Officers said medics drove the tow truck driver to the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie with minor injuries.

The crash is still under investigation.
