Weekend Preview: Jazz, High Heels and Agriculture

Looking for some things to check out this weekend? There's plenty of things to see and do, including musical performances and a 5K run.

Why Go: In addition to watching runners in high heels cover a course throughout the Towne Center, there also will be live music and Gordon Biersch beer. Towne Center restaurants also will provide food all for the benefit of the AAMC Breast Center.

Why Go: See local high school marching bands perform. Participating schools include Broadneck High, Severna Park High, Arundel High and Annapolis Area Christian School.

Why Go: Make a scarecrow (bring your own clothes), ride a pony, face painting, balloons, and corn maze. There will also be hayrides, farm animals and a pick-your-own pumpkin patch. This is event is designed to remind everyone of the importance of family farms.

What: GBIA 5K Race and One Mile Fun Walk

When/Where: 9 a.m. Saturday at , 19 Crain Highway S, Glen Burnie

Why Go: Launched in 2008 to coincide with the Glen Burnie Improvement Association's 100-year anniversary, the 5K run and one-mile fun walk is an opportunity to spend a morning participating in a family-friendly event while being active.

Cost: $15 pre-registration, $20 on site

When/Where: 10 a.m., Saturday at , 1001 Kinder Farm Park Road, Millersville

Why Go: Enjoy a day of crafts, games, learning and fun. There will be hay wagon rides, children’s games, arts and crafts, numerous demonstrations and local artisans selling their work. You can see a working sawmill, blacksmith forge, woodturning, farm animals, and more.

What: U.S. Sailboat Show

When/Where: 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, City Dock

Why Go: The 42nd annual U.S. Sailboat Show is "recognized as the nation's oldest and largest in-water show of new sailboats," according to a recent press release. The event draws crows from all over and features a wide variety of new sailboats.

Cost: adults $17, kids $4
