Community Update

The Jewish Community Center of Greater Baltimore (JCC) is hosting a fundraising event called Bids for Kids that benefits the Early Childhood Education department and the JCC Maccabi Experience—a popular teen program. The event is scheduled for Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the Gordon Center for Performing Arts at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $25 per person with premium seating at $40 per person (which includes one drink ticket).

From October 6 to October 27 donated items from the community, businesses, and individuals will be available to preview online at Biddingforgood.org/jcc. These include jewelry, spa services, sports memorabilia, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Tickets, museum passes, a personal chef experience, and various memberships, among others. The bidding will start October 27 and commence November 8 at midnight.

The night of the performance, light fare will be served, like smoothies and kosher treats with beer and wine available for purchase. Warming up for Marc Ungar is comedian Rob Schwartz, who will do a set beginning at 8:45 pm.

Fresh, edgy, veteran comedian Marc Unger hits the stage running after that and won’t let up. Armed with a dynamic stage presence, his explosive rants about everything from Gen Xers coping with the aging process to reality television are not only powerfully funny but provocative. Ungar’s been a national headliner for years and has performed regularly at many of the nation’s top comedy clubs including The Comic Strip and Gotham Comedy Club in New York and the world famous Comedy Store in Los Angeles.

After you have laughed all you can, it is time to bid on some high end items. The live auction will feature larger prizes, like a one weeks stay at Sanibel island, Orioles sky box tickets for a game, fine jewelry and more.

JCC’s Bids for Kids event is raising funds to support the Early Childhood Education department’s Natural Playground upkeep and need-based scholarships for teens participating in the JCC Maccabi Experience.

Sponsors include David S. Brown Enterprises Ltd. and Union Craft Brewery.
