Air Quality Alert: Code Orange on Tuesday

The Maryland Department of the Environment has issued a “code orange” alert for the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area on Tuesday due to the concentration of pollutants in the air.

This means that the air will be unhealthy for sensitive groups—including those with heart or lung conditions, asthmatics, children and older adults—according to the department.

People in the categories above should avoid driving, telework if possible; consolidate trips in vehicles; refuel after dusk; avoid using aerosol products; and carpool, walk or use public transit as opposed to driving, according to the Maryland Department of the Environment.

Temperatures on Tuesday are expected to be in the 90s, ahead of a coldfront Wednesday with temperatures dropping to the low 80s during the day and the 60s at night.
