Baltimore Ravens Pause Game to Watch Michael Phelps
The Ravens-Panthers game briefly stopped for Olympic swimming broadcast at M&T Bank Stadium.

BALTIMORE, MD — The Baltimore Ravens took a break from their preseason opener Thursday night at M&T Bank Stadium to watch Michael Phelps swim in the 200-meter individual medley at the 2016 Olympic games.
While fans at the Ravens-Carolina Panthers game watched on the Jumbotron in Baltimore, Phelps won his 22nd Olympic gold medal in Rio de Janeiro.

Phelps was not the only one with a win Thursday night; the Ravens beat the Panthers, 22-19.
And just as the Ravens were watching him, the Olympian said he was keeping tabs on his hometown team from Rio.

Phelps, who grew up in the Baltimore suburb of Towson, told NBC he was texting with a friend inside the stadium for updates on the score, stating: "I look forward to getting back home for a Ravens game very soon."

The Ravens also broadcast Phelps swimming in the Olympics in 2008, after their preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings; Phelps won his eighth gold medal that night competing in Beijing.
