Maryland Public Television earns eight Emmys® in annual competition

MPT will broadcast Emmy® award ceremony June 17

OWINGS MILLS, MD – The National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Television Academy of Arts and Sciences (NATAS) presented eight Emmy® Awards to Maryland Public Television at its 55th Emmy® gala on June 15.

The eight awards included the chapter’s annual Emmy® titled National Capital Chesapeake Bay Community Service Award.  It was presented to MPT to recognize the station’s 2012 “Concert for the Chesapeake Bay” volunteer-a-thon.

The Emmy® Awards recognized 2012 work in some 90 categories of production and television crafts.  The competition was open to television stations, companies, production houses, and independent producers in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia.  There were 774 entries in the competition. 

The chapter’s Emmy® Awards gala took place on Saturday, June 15 at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront hotel.  A two-hour telecast of the ceremony will air on Maryland Public Television on Monday, June 17 at 8 p.m. on MPT2, the station’s secondary channel. The awards will be re-broadcast on MPT-HD, the station’s main channel, on Wednesday, June 19 at midnight.

In the past decade, MPT productions or personnel have earned 64 regional Emmys®.  Since its launch in 1969, Maryland Public Television has also been recipient of four national Emmy® Awards.
