Today's ribbon-cutting ceremony Cherry Hill Road bridge extension, a project that has been in the works for more than three decades.

The long-awaited Cherry Hill Road bridge extension will open today in a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz, who had represented this area as a county council member.
The ceremony comes after years of construction on the road.
Meanwhile, residents are anticipating that a decade of traffic woes will stop once the extension opens.

The $8 million project will extend the road to Owings Mills Boulevard. The bridge is 513 feet long and spans Gwynns Falls and the CSX Railroad.
The project has been in the works for at least 30 years, with the county acquiring the right-of-way and necessary permits in bits and pieces. Officials say the bridge will provide an important connection between two major roadways, Owings Mills Boulevard and Reisterstown Road; thus, alleviating traffic overload in the local communities.

So far, residents have expressed relief that the long-awaited project is finally nearing its end.
“Oh, we’re happy, but we would’ve liked to have had it years ago,” said Charlie Smith, who has lived on nearby Kingsbury Road for 47 years. “But it’s better than not at all."
Today's ribbon-cutting ceremony is at 11:30 a.m. on the Reisterstown Road side of the Cherry Hill Road bridge.
