Dolfield Road to Remain Closed Until November

A washed-out portion of Dolfield Road in Owings Mills will not be opening anytime soon.

The portion of Dolfield Road damaged during Hurricane Irene will not be opened anytime soon, a Baltimore County Public Works spokesman said.

Dolfield Road, between Lakeside Boulevard and Deer Park Road, has been closed since Hurricane Irene . Rain from the storm caused a nearby stream to overflow its banks and flood Dolfield.

The washed-out road’s reopening is still four to six weeks away, public works spokesman David Fidler said.

β€œ[We’re] In the process of figuring out what the repair will be,” Fidler said. β€œThey’ll either move the stream, or build a retaining wall, or both.”

The county’s on-call contractor for this kind of repair, in Cockeysville, is dealing with a backlog of work from storm related damage in August.

Fidler left open the possibility that another contractor could complete the repair on Dolfield Road, which could cost the county between $100,000 and $300,000.

Because altering the course of the stream may be necessary, public works must also seek approval from the Maryland Department of the Environment before work starts.

At the current rate, Fidler estimated Dolfield Road would reopen by November.
