Food Lion Recalls 5 Celery Products

Celery products that may contain E. Coli were sold at stores in eight states, including Maryland.

Food Lion has recalled five celery products because they may contain E. coli., the company said in a statement.

According to Food Lion, these items are part of the voluntary recall:

  • Food Lion Large Vegetable Tray with Dip (40 oz); UPC number 035826 09869; item number 249490.
  • Food Lion Small Vegetable Tray with Dip (20 oz); UPC number 035826 09870; item number 264550
  • Food Lion Carrot/Celery Sticks (14 oz); UPC number 035826 09867; item number 598690
  • Stuffing Mix with pre-cut fresh celery and onions (16 oz); UPC number 840219 14560; item number 628020
  • Food Lion Stew Mix with pre-cut fresh vegetables, including celery (32 oz); UPC number 035826 10174; item number 000440

All have a “sell by” date of Dec. 3 to Dec. 6, according to Food Lion, which has removed the items from shelves since the recall.

Customers who have purchased these items should not eat them but are advised to return them to Food Lion for a full refund.

The items may contain E. Coli, a bacteria that can cause diarrhea and in some cases, may lead to kidney damage and failure.

TGD Cuts, which supplies Food Lion with the celery products, notified the grocery chain of the possible presence of E. Coli, leading to the voluntary recall of the items from 500 stores in eight states.

Among the stores affected are dozens in Maryland, including the Owings Mills Food Lion at 9251 Lakeside Boulevard and the Reisterstown Food Lion at 10 Village Center Road.
