The former Ravens running back released by the team after his arrest in March has come across another hurdle: a broken bone. Alex Collins, 24, broke his leg and is in the process of recovering from surgery

"Two weeks ago I broke a bone in my leg and I underwent successful surgery," Collins posted on Instagram on Monday, July 15. "I refuse to be discouraged. Instead, I have faith and am optimistic about the process. I believe that all that has happened is making me physically and emotionally stronger, and is necessary for me to succeed in life."

NFL Insider Ian Rappaport said other teams had expressed interest in Collins, but now the next steps for his football career are uncertain due to the injury.

"This past year has been a challenging one for me, but has also allowed me to look within and grow as a person. God has a plan for all of us and right now that includes me using what I’ve learned through every experience and pressing forward to the road ahead," Collins wrote.

Added Collins: "I have already begun the healing and rehab process, and I fully trust God’s plan for me. I look forward to getting back to playing football and doing what I love most. Thank you for everyone who has supported me. I’ll be back Irish dancing soon."

Collins was released from the Ravens in March after a crash in Owings Mills, where police said he was asleep behind the wheel of a Corvette that had hit a tree. Officers said they arrested him after they found marijuana and a gun in the car.

Hours later, the Ravens announced the team had waived Collins. The team had picked Collins up after he was released by the Seattle Seahawks in 2017, and he went on to become an "offensive star that captured the nation's attention and adoration with his impressive running and Irish dancing," according to the Ravens, rushing for 973 yards and averaging 4.6 yards each carry. His 2018 season was cut short by a foot injury in December, and Collins had slipped to an average of 3.6 yards per carry, according to a statement the Ravens.
