Dump Truck Spill Prompted I-695 Shutdown

All lanes were closed on I-695 for hours in Baltimore County Tuesday after a dump truck overturned, officials reported.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD β€” The outer loop of the Baltimore beltway was shut down for hours Tuesday afternoon for hours following a crash near the exit for MD 122/Security Boulevard. Officials said that one vehicle was involved in the incident.

A dump truck overturned on I-695 near I-70, spilling gravel onto the road before 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7.

Police said the driver, who was injured, was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center for treatment.

The dump truck had been righted after 5 p.m., police said, and then state highway personnel worked to clear the gravel from the road.

All lanes had reopened on the outer loop by 6 p.m.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, police said.

During the closure, the off ramp to Security Boulevard was available while traffic was not getting through on I-695. At one point, the right lane reopened.

After 6 p.m., traffic was flowing in the area on both sides of the beltway.

All lanes on the inner loop were still open.
