Is 300 sandwiches too much to pay for an engagement ring?

Stephanie Smith is the author of 300sandwiches.com. She has admitted that she prepared a sandwich for her boyfriend and he enjoyed it so much that he said you are “300 sandwiches from an engagement ring.” Smith chronicles in her diary: Each morning, he would ask, "Honey, how long you have been awake?" "About 15 minutes," I'd reply. "You've been up for 15 minutes and you haven't made me a sandwich?" ...One lazy summer afternoon just over a year ago, I finally gave in. ...Eric devoured the sandwich ... "Babes, this is delicious!" he exclaimed. As he finished that last bite, he made an unexpected declaration of how much he loved me and that sandwich: "Honey, you're 300 sandwiches away from an engagement ring!" .Maybe I needed to show him I could cook to prove that I am wife material. If he wanted 300 sandwiches, I'd give him 300 sandwiches — and I'd blog about it.” She accepted the challenge and since that time she has prepared 176 sandwiches for her future fiancée. Some have found the challenge to be cute but many have cried chauvinistism. In 2013 why would a woman agree to this demand? Is this really a bad thing or is she simply being open an honest about their rules of engagement? Isn’t marriage a compromise? Isn’t there some give and take? Why is it a bad thing to demonstrate some of those same skills in the courtship phase? So is the 300 sandwich challenge cause for celebration or outrage? http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/people/2013/09/25/300-sandwiches-enga...
