Jemicy Assistant Head of School Mark Westervelt Receives Dyslexia Tutoring Program Award
Mark Westervelt is first recipient of the Roger E. Saunders Award.
Jemicy Assistant Head of School and Director of Alumni Relations Mark Westervelt was honored this month at the annual Dyslexia Tutoring Program’s Wishes, Dreams & Imagination Gala as the 1st recipient of the Roger E. Saunders Award. The award was created to honor the memory of Roger E. Saunders, a clinical psychologist and one of Jemicy School’s founders (as well as DTP’S), who recognized the need for a different educational approach for children with dyslexia or other language-based learning differences and strongly believed in helping low-income individuals acquire appropriate instruction.
Mark, a Jemicy founding faculty member, has been at the school since it opened its doors in 1973, serving as teacher, coach, administrator, mentor, and friend to thousands of students whose lives were changed by Jemicy. His career commitment to children with dyslexia embodies all Roger Saunders stood for.
