Main Street Businesses Will Stay Open Late Tonight

One business owner hoping to attract more traffic to Main Street spearheaded an effort to brighten up the area today and keep businesses open through the evening.

Main Street businesses are beefing up their presence today in an effort to attract more business to historic Reisterstown.

owner Tammy Ruckman started talking to businesses a few weeks ago about staying open late today and placing some items outside during the day.

“I just want to liven up Main Street,” she said. “Let people come here and see what stores are here.”

Ruckman, whose shop opened in , will be joined by , , Kamora’s Kloset, , , , , , V’s Tees, Pro Care Auto, , , the Association for Animal Rights, , and .

Some shops will have setups outside, and those who normally don’t stay open late will remain open until 8 p.m. Ruckman hopes businesses will do this every Friday.

“If everybody could get on the same page, the same hours all for one day, and make it a fun day for people to come here, I think it will generate some business,” she said.

Ruckman is not the only one hoping to bring more traffic to Main Street. The , which formed last year, has been focusing its efforts on beautifying the area and involving public officials.

Recently, with county money and its own efforts, the RIA saw that Main Street got new . Some of the money for those amenities came from funds raised through the sale of on Main Street.

The RIA is now focusing on getting public parking on Main Street and an overlay to allow more uses in historic buildings.
