Maryland Public Television premieres second season of Artworks September 26

Maryland Public Television’s Artworks, a weekly arts series airing on Thursdays at 8:30 pm, returns for season two on September 26, 2013. 

This regional show features profiles of established and emerging artists locally and from across the country working in all creative arenas: music, performance and visual arts, crafts and fine arts, writing and designing, and more.  

The season two premiere episode airing on September 26 features Jonathan Latiano, a Baltimore-based dramatic installation artist and graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA).  Latiano’s work incorporates elements of biology, astronomy, physics, and geology as he creates surreal spaces and dreamlike experiences.  At the 2013 Baker Artist Awards last May, Latiano was recipient of a prestigious Mary Sawyers Baker Prize.

MPT’s innovative Artworks series emerged in 2012 from the collaborative efforts of a consortium of PBS stations that have contributed some of their best arts segments to a shared archive, organized into 30-minute programs by New York’s flagship PBS station, WNET.  The result is a rich cultural exchange of geographically and artistically diverse stories, giving viewers unprecedented access to outstanding artists they would never see otherwise.   

Season two of the program includes MPT’s locally produced segments from its own original programming including the Baker Artist Awards, Impressions, and Concert for the Chesapeake Bay. 

Rhea Feikin shares hosting duties with Guest Co-Hosts Stephen Yasko from WTMD 89.7 Public Radio,  Megan Hamilton from Baltimore Creative Alliance, Peggy Loar from the Corcoran Gallery of Art and College Art + Design, Gerald Ross from MICA, Julia Marciari-Alexander from The Walters Art Museum, and Vincent M. Lancisi from the Everyman Theater.
