Obama Stopping at Baltimore County Mosque

This week President Barack Obama will visit a mosque in the U.S., marking a first in his Presidency.

WOODLAWN, MD – President Barack Obama is planning to visit a mosque in Baltimore County this week.

The President is stopping at the Islamic Society of Baltimore on Wednesday, Feb. 3.

It is reportedly the first U.S. mosque the President will have visited since he took office in 2009. According to Bloomberg, Obama has made stops at mosques abroad in Turkey, Indonesia and Malaysia.

His intent at the Woodlawn mosque is to send a message of unity to Americans that “we’re here for each other, regardless of where [people] come from, or what they look like or what faith they practice,” a White House official told The Washington Post.

Obama will give a speech, hold a roundtable discussion and engage with children at the Islamic Society of Baltimore, which includes a K-12 school.

This is the second trip to the Baltimore area for Obama this week; he was at the Inner Harbor on Thursday, Jan. 28, speaking at a retreat for Democrats.
