Owings Mills Woman Shot by NYPD Killer Released from Hospital
Shaneka Thompson is 'doing fine,' relative told reporters.

The Owings Mills woman and former girlfriend of the man who fatally shot two NYPD officers has reportedly been released from the hospital after being treated for a gunshot wound.
Shaneka Nicole Thompson, 29, of the 10000 block of Mill Run Circle, was released from the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center as of Tuesday, Dec. 30, according to CBS.
Her grandfather said she was “doing fine,” according to The Baltimore Sun.

Thompson was hospitalized after her ex-boyfriend shot her in the abdomen Dec. 20 in a dispute about their relationship, the Baltimore County Police Department reported.
The gunman—Ismaaiyl Abdula Brinsley, 28—took a bus to New York City afterward, where he killed two NYPD officers sitting in a police cruiser. Then he went to a nearby subway station and shot himself.

The gun used in the New York shootings was the same one that Brinsley allegedly used to shoot Thompson, according to the Daily Mail.
When police interviewed Thompson at the hospital, she told them that Brinsley did not mention plans to harm police, according to a statement from the Baltimore County Police Department, which said their argument was over the status of their relationship. Police said the two had been dating less than a year.
She talked Brinsley out of shooting himself after he entered her apartment and put a gun to his head, according to NYPD’s Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce, who described Thompson as a “very courageous young woman.”
Thompson is a health insurance specialist with the Department of Medicaid and Medicare. She is also an Air Force reservist and medical administrator with the 440th Airlift Wing in Pope Field, NC, Air Force Times reported.
The day of the shootings, Brinsley was trying to get back together with Thompson and when she would not, he shot her, NBC reported. Her neighbors called 911, and Thompson was admitted to the hospital in critical condition, police said.
While Thompson has not completely healed, she is “progressing” and spending time with her mother during the recovery process, her grandfather told the New York Post, which reported she was discharged Sunday.
