Photos: First Day at the Farmers' Market
The Owings Mills Farmers Market opened for the season Sunday at the JCC.
Quantity did not define variety Sunday, when a few local vendors got together at the first day of the to offer, among other items, Amish baked goods, handmade crafts such as aprons, clothespin holders and jewelry, organic coffee, a smorgasbord of hot sauces, and of course, fresh, local produce.
Kim Hess, , noted that while only a small number of vendors were on hand for the kickoff, she expects more in the coming weeks as others have expressed interest in participating but had other commitments Sunday.
Despite the small showing of vendors, customers trickled in throughout the day.

Lee Cooper of Pikesville said she's been to the market a couple of times before and prefers to spend her money on local, fresh food instead of going to Giant for produce.
"We have to help each other, especially in this economy," she said.

The market will be held from 8:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. every Sunday from now through October in the parking lot of the .
