Plaque Memorial Dedication Ceremony for Local 5 Year Old Who Helped the Homeless Animals

On Friday, February 7th at 10:30 a.m. Baltimore Humane Society will be holding a plaque ceremony in memory of Sarah Jayne Orton.  Please join us as we unveil a plaque memorializing the little girl who helped the homeless animals. 

Five year old Sarah loved all animals and lived her short life doing all she could to help and care for them.  For her fifth birthday, Sarah specifically asked that all birthday gifts be given as donations to Baltimore Humane Society, the shelter where her own dog, Scooter, had been adopted before Sarah was even born.

Sadly, Sarah passed away suddenly just a few months after her fifth birthday.  Sarah's favorite color was rainbow so it is fitting that the plaque in her memory be hung on the BHS dog kennel which now wears a brightly colored mural painted by 7th grade students from Temple Emanuel.

To honor their daughter, Sarah's family set up the Sarah Jayne Orton Memorial Foundation.  All donations go toward the care of the animals at Baltimore Humane Society. (link:  https://www.bmorehumane.org/donate/sarah-jayne-orton-memorial-foundation)

The Orton family is also introducing the Sarah Jayne Orton Memorial Walk/Run that will be held every May around Sarah's birthday.  The first Walk will be on May 17th at Sandymount Park in Finksburg at 11am.  For more information and to register for the walk email:   walk@sarahjayneorton.com.

Sarah's aunt, Nicole Mathews,  Baltimore Humane Society Executive Director, Jen Swanson, and Andrew Levine, Baltimore Humane Society Board President will speak at the dedication.
