Police: Off-Duty Officer Involved in Randallstown Apartment Shooting
Two Baltimore County police officers were working as security at Woodridge Apartments when one accidentally fired, police said.

The Baltimore County Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred Monday night involving two off-duty officers who had been working as security at an apartment complex in Randallstown.
Before 6 p.m. on Monday, a 14-year-old boy was shot and suffered injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening when one of the off-duty officers accidentally discharged his weapon, police said.
The two officers were working as security at the Woodridge apartment complex in the 9600 block of Southall Road, where management alerted them to people in a vacant apartment that was under construction, according to police.

This is what happened next, according to a statement from the Baltimore County Police Department.
The security officers approached the building and were able to see and hear movement inside.

As one of the security officers watched the building, a person came out on a balcony.
The off-duty officer told the on-duty officers who responded to the scene that at that moment—as he was pointing the weapon in the direction of the balcony—his weapon discharged accidentally.
The person on the balcony went back inside the building and fled the scene; he ran to his nearby residence.
The accidental gunfire struck a 14-year-old male and caused non-life threatening injuries.
The BCoPD off-duty officer whose weapon fired will be placed on administrative status during the investigation.
This incident is under active investigation by the Baltimore County Police Homicide Unit. When the homicide investigation is complete, the report will be sent to the Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office
