Poll: Should Solo Cup Remain a Manufacturing Site, Instead?

Many seem excited about the proposed retail development, Foundry Row at Owings Mills. But would a new manufacturing site provide the area with more jobs?

An opinion piece in The Baltimore Sun last week questioned whether the old property in Owings Mills should really be redeveloped as a shopping center.

"At the Solo Cup property...Wegmans alone expects to hire more than the 540 employees lost at the Solo plant," the editorial said, in part. "But it is unlikely that those jobs will pay as well or have as large a spillover effect on other businesses in the area."

There's little doubt that Foundry Row at Owings Mills should be a boon to the area. But is there a better development plan for the old manufacturing site?
