Ravens Start Training with New Kind of Ball

Baltimore Ravens use different type of training to catch interceptions.

OWINGS MILLS, MD — The Baltimore Ravens are trying a new way to catch interceptions: tennis balls.

Coach John Harbaugh admitted that he promoted using the smaller balls in practice to increase the focus of the players after a season where the Ravens had the fewest interceptions of any team in the NFL, the Cecil Whig reported.

The team whose defense had the most interceptions in 2015 was the Carolina Panthers with 24, while the Ravens were at the bottom of the heap with 6, according to ESPN.

In addition to training with tennis balls, the Ravens reportedly plan to use Lardarius Webb and Eric Weddle as safeties, putting them in a position where their smaller statures and speed may boost the team's chances for interceptions.
