Reisterstown Firefighters Help Battle Gamber Blaze

One person was reportedly injured as a result of house fire.

The Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Company helped battle a house fire in Carroll County this week.

After 4 a.m. on Monday, the fire broke out in the living room of a home in the 3300 block of Sykesville Road, where there were no smoke detectors and one person suffered minor burns, the Carroll County Times reported.

The Reisterstown crew was dispatched at 4:30 a.m. and helped suppress the fire and check for hot spots, according to a report from the fire company.

After approximately three hours, the Reisterstown engine cleared the scene.

This weekend, fire departments across Maryland will be promoting the importance of smoke alarms during the Statewide Community Risk Reduction weekend, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal. Participating departments will canvass the community, checking and installing smoke alarms upon request. The fire marshal says that a smoke alarm should be replaced every 10 years.

More than half of all fire deaths occur in homes without a smoke alarm, according to the National Fire Protection Association.
