Sears Sets Closing Date At Security Square Mall

The Sears store at Security Square will be closing this fall.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — As it whittles down its stores nationwide, Sears announced it would be closing the Security Square location. The company disclosed the store's closure in August. Now, a closing date has been set.

The Sears at Security Square will close Nov. 10, staff told Patch Monday, Oct. 14.

Until then, the store is holding liquidation sales, with everything in the store 3o to 80 percent off.

Sears has been closing stores in waves as it switches to smaller-store formats. The company declared bankruptcy in October 2018 and by that time already had closed 160 Sears and Kmart locations.

Transform, the company that acquired Sears Corporation, reported in August the Security Square store was one of 26 that were shuttering as it switches to smaller-store formats.

This is at least the third Sears in Baltimore County to close. Sears in Hunt Valley closed in summer 2017, while the Eastpoint Mall Sears closed in early 2018. There will be one left, at White Marsh Mall.

Since the announcement of the Sears in Security Square Mall closing, the company has announced another round of closures, which includes one other Maryland store. Sears in Gaithersburg will also close by the end of the year, the company reported in September.
