This morning I went to one of my local chain supermarkets to pick up a few things. The cost of a head of iceberg lettuce was $2.49. I decided it was time to go to the produce store where I knew the food was fresh and cheaper. As I suspected the cost of head of lettuce was $1.49 that savings was worth the trip. I put the lettuce in my basket, but I noticed the clerk came and took the sign away and came back and re-posted it (or so I thought). I proceeded to get the rest of my veggies and I proceeded to the checkout. When the same clerk rang my food up the lettuce price had gone from $1.49 to $1.99. I said whoa that lettuce is $1.49 he then told me the price has gone up. He said “”lettuce is expensive”. I said I know that and I also know when I came in this store that lettuce was $1.49. I guess he weighed his options get the additional fifty cents or lose the entire order. He elected to give me the $1.49 price and move on. In this day and time every penny counts. No fifty cent is not a deal breaker, but right is right. Far too often in larger stores you see posted signs only to get to the checkout and find the price being charged is different from the checkout price, but the signage is different. Why am I writing this? Because as consumers we have to be diligent in watching that cash register. We need to make mental notes of the price of things we put in our baskets. I’m not saying this is a conspiracy against us I am just saying watch the register because every penny counts, and you don’t want to part with yours because somebody made a mistake or somebody decided to change a price while you are on your way to checkout.
