When U Food Grill opens in Owings Mills, it will mark the first Maryland location for the fast-casual franchise, which is headquartered in Massachusetts.
"I spent many years traveling around the country and always struggled to locate places to eat that matched my healthy eating philosophy," said franchise owner Stephen Goldberg, who is a forensic psychiatrist living in Howard County.

“After scouting the Baltimore metropolitan region for the perfect location for our inaugural restaurant, we kept coming back to Metro Centre at Owings Mills,” Goldberg said.
He cited the "multi-faceted" nature of Metro Centre as a draw; the mixed-use campus includes a Baltimore County Public Library branch; Baltimore Community College location; retailers; apartments; and other restaurants such as Eggspectation, Times Square Kitchen, Fractured Prune and Subway.
“I have watched the activity during the day in the existing restaurants, and it is impressive. We intend to be another option," Goldberg said. "New office buildings are coming soon, which will provide additional daytime traffic."
In the next three to five years, Goldberg said he plans to open another five franchises in Maryland.
