The worse kind of politician is an elected official who is set in stone on any issue; without looking at the whole issue and considering the impact of his vote on the State House floor. Such cost is not always measured in dollars but also in social outcomes that can be positive or negative.
The problem with American politics today is this. The priority is to make the other party look bad at all cost. This is not good for America let alone for our Political System. I believe we need a lot of reform. Lobbyist who contacts any elected official for any reason should have to make the meeting public with minutes taken from both the elected official side as well as the lobbyist side. This way there is no hidden agenda from the American People in our State or Country. Maryland needs to push for such reform as well as the Federal Government.
But there is an old political quote ‘politics start at the local level” So I have now started this idea of reform.
The Governor of Maryland has way too much power and we as a people need to look at these broad powers and make our State Government more balanced.
I believe we should do this in the State of Maryland. I am also convinced that if you are a State Elected official, you must step down from your public job. We have had too many elected officials tied up in corruption taking a kick back from an industry that they work for. We also need Term Limits in Annapolis.
I would also push to have two State Senators per County. The overlap of district lines is done just for political power and the leverage of our counties is reduced to a handful. The State Senators should represent the Counties only. I would push it for the State Delegates but I could see the feds jumping into this. My point is this we need to bring all the counties at the table in Annapolis. This dictatorship by just a few counties must end.
My point is this. We the people of Maryland are no longer in charge of our State Government via our elected officials! The Lobbyist from both camps has taken over. The votes needed to hold office by elected officials in their eyes is just a necessary burden to maintain their job. We the people need to correct the mistrust.
