Troop 10071 raised $140 for a local animal shelter through their "Give Change to Make Change" project. The girls asked cookie booth customers to donate $1 of their change to make a change for a local animal shelter. The girls chose to give their donation to Defenders of Animal Rights in Phoenix, Maryland (www.adopt-a-pet.org). In addition to the monetary donation, Troop 10071 made 18 blankets as part of the Snuggles Project (www.snugglesproject.org). Some families donated items from the shelter's wish list. The girls visited the animal shelter on February 1, 2014 to give their donation. An animal care technician explained the ins and outs of working in an animal shelter and how to pursue a career in animal care. This was a great opportunity for the girls to take ownership of a philanthropic project and they were well rewarded with lots of kisses from Macey, a 15-month-old puppy! All of the scouts earned their "Make a Difference" patch.
